Strawberry plants continue to produce flowers. The picking is not as easy but the plants are not setting runners yet. This generally indicates that the plants are not so stressed and still leaning toward making fruit. Once the plants get stressed out or reach a certain maturity point they reproduce new plants by setting runners. So this is good news. We may need more patience with the ripening due to the cooler weather.

Meanwhile the blueberries are starting to turn. The greens are coming through. So many things seem very affected by the late winter weather. We are getting a few garden peas.; just starting some green beans. So the season is trying to get rolling.

The bakery is turning out some neat items. Strawberry pies, eclairs , tomato pies and more.

The garden center still has lots of plants and supplies for gardening.strawberrieseclairsflowers

This week the strawberry field looks good. The extra cloud cover will help take some stress from the plants. We anticipate the berries to get sweeter as the season progresses. The size of the berries may go down some but the flavor should go up.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        indigo strawberries

It continues to be a good time for strawberries. Pick your own should be open every day this week. Look for some very good prices on strawberries. We grade our berries after we pick them and now have culls that are particularly good if you want to make jam or preserves. Berries that are left from the previous day are sold at reduced prices as well.

FYI, pay attention when you buy fruits and vegetables. Many people sell strawberries by the "4qt bucket". The white mesh plastic buckets are very often a liquid quart capacity not a dry quart capacity. There is a rather big difference. So if you buy a bucket as 4 qts for $10 but only get 2-2.5 qts. It isn't such a good deal. You get more fruit in a well rounded pulp container than in a plastic clamshell container.

We are starting to get some kale, cilantro, radishes, spinach, chard and other fresh spring vegetables.

PYO may not open so early Thursday but we will evaluate the weather mid morning and see how it looks from there. So call before you just come out for PYO. We should be open Friday and Saturday.

The plants and the fruit look good. It is a good time to pick or buy berries at the market.

We will be at Myrtle Beach Farmer's Market Wednesday. We have a good supply of strawberries. This is a particularly good time for organic strawberries.

If you go to the Market at the farm, we have lots of strawberries and lots of other items, including pies. Please call by today if you would like to have some organic strawberries held for you at the farm. There may not be any organic strawberries left when you get here if you don't call a ask to hold them.                                                                                                                           indigo strawberries

Strawberries are coming into full stride! This means PYO is better, buying by the flat, good deals on culls and stem berries become more common.  Good news from the field is that the plants are in good condition. PYO on Monday looks good. The field will be open at 8 am. We think we should be open all day until about 5pm.

There are lots of plants in the garden center and some tasty pies , treats in the bakery. delicious

Our crops grow slowly during these short, cold winter days. Due to this the Farm Market will be closed in January and most of February.

We will RE-OPEN as the days get longer and the plants get bigger!

In January we'll be back at

The International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach

at Market Common on Thursday afternoons from 1:00 - 6:00!

With the start of a New Year we're working on some new projects, like this High Tunnel which will protect plants that are growing in the field. This allows them to mature faster, so we can have delicious produce for y'all sooner!

We will be back at the Myrtle Beach Farmers Market starting Spring 2019 - October.
